About
StudentCard's mission is 'making it cheaper to be a student', by sourcing bigger than average deals on products and services students already buy.
Founded in October 2001, StudentCard has grown quickly and spread across NZ.
The name "StudentCard" comes from an ingenious combination of the two words "student" and "card", which represent both the target demographic and physical manifestation of the brand. It is spelled with a capital "S" and a capital "C", but nobody else gets it right so you may as well not bother either.
The business model behind the card is unique and is geared towards giving large numbers of students the chance to save real money on big brands. At the same time it means that lots of students are using the card every day to make actual purchases from retailers, driving sales for our clients. It's an experimental model that had never been tried before, but has resulted in NZ's largest and most successful nationwide multi-retailer tertiary loyalty card (or NMRTLC for short).
Funding for the card comes from students buying the card, and Institutions providing it as their Students ID. The majority of income comes from students, keeping StudentCard honest to its mission.
If you are a tertiary student or apprentice in work based training, studying in New Zealand and you like the look of the Deals, you can
sign up
for a card any time online, or you can get one from UBS Bookshop or at Bennets Bookstores nationwide.
